Loss Of A Leader

We mourn the loss of Mr. Luis Velazquez, a wise leader for the Hispanic community, a great friend, and a distinguished member of our community. Mr. Velazquez resided in Knoxville with his wife and family for over 35 years. A native of Puerto Rico, Mr. Velazquez retired from an engineering position in Oak Ridge and proceeded to utilize his time on various worthy projects, including the creation of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for which he was the director for many years.

Rural Broadband Call-In & Email Day – Mar. 7

The SEAD Task Force is asking residents, community organizers, business owners and local officials to contact Tennessee state representatives and senators in support of our public utilities providing fiber optic broadband service to rural communities in the state.

House Bill 1303 and Senate Bill 1134 would provide our public utilities with the legal protection necessary to expand their fiber optic networks across the state. Home-grown expansion would keep our money in our communities and help to begin the work of closing the digital divide in Central Appalachia.
